Date: 3/25/2017 3:30:00 PM
Topic of Study: Natural Science
Presenter: Daisy Valdes
Synopsis: Astrology and astronomy involve the study of the planets and stars. Humanity is always searching for elements and meanings of intergalactic life in space. Historically, both sciences were considered the same process. However, now day astronomy and astrology refer to quite different activities: astronomy is the scientific study of space, and astrology is a set of spiritual beliefs about the metaphysical relationship between bodies in space and human life on Earth. We will discuss about both sciences, the link of the planets to the zodiac signs, and how they become an essential part of freemasonry

What is the interaction between Mind and Body?
Date: 4/22/2017 3:30:00 PM
Topic of Study: Philosophy
Presenter: Cecilia Sifuentes
Synopsis: Dualism suggested that humans are composed of two separable ‘parts’, each can exist by itself independently of one another, the soul (mind) and the body. This is the traditional view of dualism as shared by even most of us today. Dualism makes sense of the apparent bifurcation of mind and body. The qualities of our experience seems to differ dramatically from the qualities of material bodies. How does Freemasonry keep the balance between those two parts?

What is Discipline?
Date: 6/24/2017 4:00:00 PM
Topic of Study: Behavioral Science
Presenter: Lylia GonzalezFrayle
Synopsis: Discipline comes from discipulus, the Latin word for pupil, which also provided the source of the word disciple. Discipline is a concept everyone is aware of, but few truly understand. Why is this? The most successful people in life exert discipline on daily basis. It is vital to every living being and without it, the world around us would be chaos. Discussing what discipline is can help us to be mindful of its existence in our lives and leads to the success in Freemasonry. To be a great and inspiring leader, you must constantly display restraint. Not giving into something you truly want is a sign of strength. Making the right decisions in life can make or break you, and this type of person tends to make the right decisions. Regardless of where you exert this self-restrain, it will help to promote achievement in your life. What would be the consequences of undisciplined behavior in our physical and mental health? We will try to answer this a other questions in the discussing of this very important subject, and what association it has with Masonry.

Are we using the Pythagorean Theorem in our daily lives?
Date: 10/28/2017 4:00:00 PM
Topic of Study: Formal Science
Presenter: Lylia GonzalezFrayle
Synopsis: It is sometimes claimed that we owe pure mathematics to Pythagoras, and he is often called the first “true” mathematician. But, although his contribution was clearly important, he nevertheless remains a controversial figure. He left no mathematical writings himself and most of what we know as Pythagorean thought comes to us from the writings of Philolaus and other later Pythagorean scholars. Indeed, it is by no means clear whether many, or any, of the theorems ascribed to him were in fact achieved by Pythagoras personally or by his followers. Pythagoras’ Theorem and the properties of right-angled triangles seems to be the most ancient and widespread mathematical development after basic arithmetic and geometry and it was touched on in some of the most ancient mathematical texts from Babylon and Egypt, dating from over a thousand years earlier. During our MPS meeting we will discuss some of the parts it has in Masonry, the Pythagorean theories, and the use we give them in our daily lives.

Are we ready to interact in a multiracial community?
Date: 11/11/2017 4:00:00 PM
Topic of Study: Behavioral Science
Presenter: Cecilia Sifuentes
Synopsis: Racial mixing, in and of itself, is not a new phenomenon in the world; however, In the USA it has increased since the passage of Civil Rights legislation and dismantling of state laws banning interracial marriage. The changing terrain of race relations has also been accompanied by an emergent cultural space where mixed race people who identify as “multiracial” are visible in the media and “multiracial” identity is increasingly viewed as a legitimate racial identity. The Co-Masonic order, fraternally united without distinction sexes, race, religion, or creed and aspires to move pass the limitations of the perceived difference between us by uniting us in a common purpose. Are we, as humans, ready to interact according to this Masonic ideal?

Is there free will in religion?
Date: 12/9/2017 4:00:00 PM
Topic of Study: Theology
Presenter: Katherine Murillo
Synopsis: Freewill is Gods greatest gift to humanity. However this gift still does not give humanity the "get out of jail free card." Free will is having the ability to make choices despite whether they are good or ill. It appears that free will issues always come to the surface when there is an issue of a poor decision. This tends to be used as an escape goat to not having to obey moral principles to others; thus, many religions have created cultures and dogmas to remove the "poor choices" we make, but to what end? Is the removing of poor choice end free will in religion?

Hypatia Quote

Wisdom of Neoplatonism

"Fables should be taught as fables, myths as myths, and miracles as poetic fantasies. To teach superstitions as truths is a most terrible thing. The child mind accepts and believes them, and only through great pain and perhaps tragedy can he be in after years relieved of them."
