Date: 1/6/2018 2:30:00 PM
Topic of Study: Theology
Presenter: Maryone Lloyd
Synopsis: Christianism is centered on the cross and the crucifixion of the Mesiah who was sacrificed for the forgiveness of our sins. What is the symbolism of the blood sacrifice and why does humanity need a Mesiah as a way to return to the Creator? If we teach responsibility to each individual for their actions having one man pay for the sins of humanity sounds contradictory. Yom Kippur is the time of atonement and Easter when crucifixion and resurrection bring about redemption. We will discuss similar views various religions hold on this subject. Does Freemasonry have a symbolism for the concept of Atonement?

"A human being is a part of a whole, called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest ... a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty."
