Iconoclasm: Does the Destruction of Icons & Statues Improve Society?

Synopsis: The world today is seeing the destruction of icons that hold religious and political ideas significant in the mythology of Western society. This act known as iconoclasm has a long history going back thousands of years even to Ancient Egypt; and iconoclasts are those individuals that believe they are challenging "cherished beliefs or venerated institutions on the grounds that they are erroneous and pernicious" by the destruction of "false" icons or "false" gods. We will examine the historical, cultural, and political ramifications of this movement in the past as well as in modern times. Freemasonry neither condones or condemns these actions but will serve as the foundation of the discussion and education on this relevant topic.
