Comparing Philosophy: What is the difference between the philosophies of our origin and those of modern times?
Date: 4/12/2020 3:00:00 PM
Topic of Study: Philosophy
Presenter: Dalia Espinosa
Synopsis: One of the human characteristics is inquisitiveness. It is natural for humans to discover and spend time experimenting and asking questions. This theme is embedded in Freemasonry as Masons are called to knowledge. Humans and Masons alike have studied Plato, Tolstoy, Kant, Socrates, etc. Societies and countries were formed based on believes from Great Philosophical Inquisitors in our history. What happened in our Modern times that we don’t have such a list of great thinkers in the present? Have we lost our sense of wonder? Why don’t we sit in groups to discuss and exchange ideas for the fun of it? Or is it that we have a new language to express our philosophical ideas and wonders? It is possible that the new languages of musical messages, movies, stories and other modern art have become the new social philosophy. There is responsibility on our shoulders to keep curiosity alive and during the meeting we will compare the philosophy of our beginning and the philosophy of today’s world.

Date: 5/25/2020 7:00:00 PM
Topic of Study: Art
Presenter: Cat Pedini
Synopsis: Don Quixote de La Mancha was an old man who tried to save a broken world by deciding to be a knight. Everyone laughed at him for being delusional, but he persevered until it destroyed him. Is romantic idealism possible in an increasingly cynical world? Can Freemasonry arm us with better weapons than Don Quixote had, to rise up against the forces of darkness, both real and metaphorical? Is the fight worth it, even though we know it is a fight that cannot ever be won?
