Does the limit of individual life span help ensure our long term survival?
Date: 12/3/2017 2:00:00 PM
Topic of Study: Natural Science
Presenter: Elizabeth Osborne
Synopsis: Human beings have a built in expiration date. If we could find ways to significantly extend human life spans or end mortality based on natural aging, disease, and injury, perhaps our entire focus would change. Older, wiser beings might take better care of our world. On the other hand, they might squander more resources and pollute the planet at quicker rates, leading to the extinction of many species, including our own. At this meetup we will explore the effects that extended human life span might have on humanity and on Initiatory organizations like Freemasonry.

"A human being is a part of a whole, called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest ... a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty."
