Do good and evil really exist?
Date: 4/27/2019 1:00:00 PM
Topic of Study: Behavioral Science
Presenter: Doyle Slack
Synopsis: In religion, ethics, and philosophy, the concept of "good and evil" is a dichotomy which appears to be universal. Every language has a word expressing good in the sense of "having the right or desirable quality" and bad in the sense "undesirable." But who decides what is “good” and what is “evil?” A requirement of becoming a Freemason is that one is upright - having a strong moral compass. We will discuss differing viewpoints of whether “good” and “evil” truly exist and how they relate to the concept of morality.

Date: 10/26/2019 1:00:00 PM
Topic of Study: Esotericism
Presenter: Sandy McKeown
Synopsis: Hermeticism is a spiritual and philosophical system based on the teachings of Hermes Trismegistus ("Thrice Great"). He was called "Thrice Great" because he had three parts of the wisdom of the entire universe. The word 'science' means knowledge. It is the practical and intellectual study of the physical world through observation and experiment. Are these two studies compatible? Join us as we learn and understand about each of their teachings and relationship.

What is Freemasonry?
Date: 12/28/2019 1:00:00 PM
Topic of Study: Philosophy
Presenter: Sandy McKeown
Synopsis: Universal Co-Masonry was brought to the United States in the early 1900s by a French socialist and Italian journalist, both seeking to bring the philosophy of Freemasonry to the people. Universal Co-Masonry is a Masonic institution that admits men and women, on equal footing, into its ranks. Hailing from the Ancient Mysteries Schools of the Old World, Universal Co-Masonry is an intellectual, philosophical, and spiritual order that works towards the advancement of the human race. Join us as we host a Questions and Answers meeting on Freemasonry.

"A human being is a part of a whole, called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest ... a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty."
