Philosophy of the Mind and Artificial intelligence?
Date: 6/13/2020 10:00:00 AM
Topic of Study: Philosophy
Presenter: Berta Armenteras Andreu
Synopsis: The Philosophy of the mind focuses its center of research around the relationship between the mind and the body, particularly the brain and how its processes define the nature of consciousness. If the link between the body and conscience exists, then a machine could also contain a certain type of Artificial Intelligence on a body of its own that would allow for their own consciousness. Is this intersection possible? We'll discuss different theories, including how a sustainable development of AI is necessary for the betterment of humanity, a goal toward which all Freemasons aspire.

"A human being is a part of a whole, called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest ... a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty."
